Tomorrow (today) is the New York City Marathon. So I thought I’d recap last year’s marathon.
It’s a little late, I know, but I didn’t expect to go out tonight so I hadn’t written this in advance. I went to a great party at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It was a nice, mellow crowd and I really had a good time. I went as a marthoner. My roommate took pictures so I’ll get her to send them to me tomorrow.
Now, I present you with the 2008 Marathon. Luckily for me it takes place 2 blocks away from my apartment so it’s easy for me to walk on up there at a relatively normal time.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from last year.
Those are the elite men. I missed the elite women last year.
These people were next to me the entire time, they were waiting to hand off essential supplies to runners.
I love how many Gatorade things there are on the ground by the end.
It’s funny that last year when I was watching the marathon I thought, one day I’ll do this. And I don’t know why I thought that. I had never run even a mile at that point. But you know what? This year I’m thinking the same thing. One day I will do that. And it’s still pretty unrealistic, but give me a few years and it will happen.
Despite the fact that I’m sitting here now icing my ankles and my knees after my 5.5 mile run and I can barely move my right leg because the joint to the hip hurts. But you’ve got to to through pain to get to something great.
The plan for tomorrow is to head up to the route at 9:15 or so.
I live at about mile 7 so we should be seeing the elite women at 9:48 or so so leaving at 9:15 gives me plenty of time. And I’m glad it won’t be as cold as last year!
I’ll leave you with a video.
Nice pics. It looks like a Gatorade cup graveyard. When I move to the city I’ll look forward to catching the marathon every year.
